There is a really neat area of collecting that I personally would like better to be able to afford. It is called Petroliana. As the name suggests, sort of, it has to do with collecting things related to petroleum products.

I went to what was listed as a yard sale last year in a town not too far away from me and was just blown away by the petroliana this guy had collected. There were old porcelain advertising signs, hundreds of old oil cans and other small knick knacks that came from service stations and even an old antique gas pump that he said he had torn apart and re-conditioned on his own. His two uncles had own service stations that went out of business year before and he managed to put together what amounted to a small museum in his garage with what he salvaged along with some items he said he had continued to pick up on his own after he started to get really into the restoration part of the project.

Most of the stuff he was selling was not in this part of his house. It just happened to be there and it was what captured my attention at that point. I did ask if he planned on selling any of it, and he said that he wasn't really interested because he didn't want to part with any of it.

When I got home, I started doing a little bit of research on the Internet and realized that the man was sitting thousands and possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of collectibles. He probably knows that already, but he really seems to enjoy owning the stuff.

One of my favorite parts of the whole collection was the gas pump globes. Those are big glass balls that used used to sit on top of gas pumps. I believe most of them lit up and did the job of advertising the gasoline brand quite nicely. They are very sharp and, in a collection, just look absolutely stunning in their restored condition.

I really don't have a central theme to any part of my house that I am allowed to decorate. If I ever do get around to re-doing my game room however, I think I will almost definitely make a place for at least two or three of those old gas pump globes.

1967 Gibson Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar Great Sound

Guitar players got their first experience with the Gibson Hummingbird in 1960, when it was introduced. Its still highly regarded today, 49 years later. It has a square shoulder, dreadnought design. As guitar making has evolved, the design of the Hummingbird has had a few tweaks (but not many). Gibson offers a model called the Hummingbird True Vintage which is built the specifications of the original Hummingbirds made back in 1960. They also offer a modern version of the guitar known as the Custom Koa. All of these guitars are a beautiful sight. The Sunburst finish was used on most of the Gibson Hummingbird guitars that have been produced, but there have been some made with a natural finish.

There isn't much sense in reading about a guitar though. The true test is obviously how it sounds. Fortunately, there are some very talented guitar players who have shared their playing on the Internet. Here are a couple of great demonstrations of how great these guitars sound when they are played by someone who knows what they are doing! I can always use as many Guitar Tips as I can get.

Music fans can be very devoted. As I was looking around on Ebay, I found several listings for Beatles plates. I go to a lot of estate sales and I haven't seen that many Beatles commemorative plates up for sale. The ones I have seen have been priced very high compared to what I found on eBay.

You might be wondering what the heck a Beatles plate is if you're not a hardcore collector of musical memorabilia or collector's plates. Well, it seems that if you get famous enough, you might eventually find an image of yourself on a Bradford Exchange collectors plate! OK, I doubt that anyone reading this is in danger of becoming as famous as the Beatles were during the 1960s, but these are a nice way to commemorate one of the biggest musical influences during the last century. Bradford Exchange is a huge name in the collectors plates business. They create pre-determined quantities of hand numbered plates and offer them for sale in limited editions. Once they are snatched up, that's it. That is the reason eBay is such a popular place for finding this type of item. The plates I found are from the 1990's but you should check individual listings for details if you decide to do any buying.

Paul Mccartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr are some of the most recognizable names and faces in popular music even today. It's hard to believe that it's been 39 years since the band broke up! Of course part of that maybe because each member of the Beatles managed to pull off the difficult transition to a solo career. Sadly, only two surviving Beatles remain. There is a very nice description of Beatlemania and all things Beatle related located here.

I started reading about The Beatles and found it quite interesting that they were not all that popular with test audiences in the United States. Looking at the explosion of the Beatle's popularity is like putting a magnifying glass to the American culture of the day. I'm fascinated by what makes certain things hit the tipping point of mega-popularity. Whatever it is, the Beatles did manage to reach it and then some. I wasn't born until the end of Beatlemania, but I grew up hearing their music and they were still part of the popular culture even after the band's demise.

These plates capture images of The Beatles during their most popular days of making music and movies. With 15 number one albums being just the tip of the iceberg, there's a lot to remember about the foursome from Liverpool.

I'll bet that our parents never thought people would collect antique and vintage milk bottles. There are many people today who cannot even remember when milk came in bottles and was delivered to your door. All they have ever seen are the plastic and cardboard cartons sitting on the shelf of the local grocery store. When I was a kid, every house on my street had a milk box where you would set out your empty milk bottles at night, and find full bottles waiting in the morning. It seemed like I could never get up in time to actually catch the milkman making his delivery.

I think it is kind of cool that a lot of people have started collecting vintage and antique milk bottles today. The old bottles had the name of the dairy on them so that they would not get lost. Now, the name on the bottle seems to have a lot to do with its value to collectors. Of course bottle collectors also look at the general condition of the bottle and the quality of the printing that remains as well. One of these days I'd really like to go back to the place where I grew up and go digging through the woods at the end of our street. I remember finding all sorts of bottles there when I was a kid.

If you're interested, there are many sites on the Internet devoted to collecting vintage milk bottles (which date back to around the 1880's) and other antique bottles dating back hundreds of years.

Ok. I can't promise this will still be around when you find this page, but if I had the money to throw, I think I might just go for this Obama Autograph on a guitar that was also signed by Bruce Springsteen. These are not two of my all time favorites, but this is one of those really unusual collectibles that you don't come across very often. It was won by the seller at a celebrity auction and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Their listing actually goes to great lengths to confirm that this is an authentic item. According to the seller, it was signed back on 11/10/2008. (edit: the original guitar sold, but I'll set this to show a feed of available signed Bruce guitars.)

Even if you don't win the autographed guitar, it seems that grabbing a presidential autograph can be a pretty good investment. This article mentions an Obama signed document going for $500 and a signed baseball going for $1500! The article also mentions the worth of some other presidents. Obama autographs average in the high hundreds according to the source quoted in the article.

Breuer Wassily Chair

As I've gone through my own old estate items, I've started to become interested in how many of the "old" things are still quite popular. Part of my research is so I know what to look for when I hit estate sales, but I find this pursuit interesting in its own right.

Take the Breuer Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer for instance. These have been around since the middle of the 1920's when Marcel Breuer designed them. Part of the modernist movement, they still look quite modern today and they are very popular and available in many designs. These chairs feature tubular steel frames. These were nickelled originally and then later chrome plated. It is said that these frames were based on Adler bicycle frames. The actual seating material is most often fabric, leather or canvas.

Wassily chair reproductions are sold as a way to modernize your home's furnishings. That's pretty cool for something designed 84 years ago! Reproduction Wassily chairs are quite popular today and there are even Wassily chair books. These chairs are like works of art.

As far as pricing goes, I found that the prices on Amazon and the prices on eBay were pretty much comparable and some of the best available. If you are looking, I would check out both sites. Amazon has specials that go on from time to time that are pretty impressive and eBay now offers a lot of "buy it now" items along with auctions which can sometimes yield really great deals. Personally I like both sites because they have good buyer protection policies. Depending on what I'm looking for, I almost always check out eBay when I'm shopping for just about anything because sometimes some very low priced items slip through the cracks. Where to Find Guitar Stuff for Sale

One thing I noticed recently is that there are a LOT of musical instruments and other music related items available at decent prices on eBay. Guitar stuff for sale seems to be a really popular category. I'm guessing that this is because a lot of people decide they want learn how to play guitar and then give up. Actually saying that guitar stuff is popular on eBay may be the understatement of the year. I just checked now, and there are actually 165,593 guitar related items listed! Go ahead and click on it. It will open a new window. Do you realize how that absolutely DWARFS competing stores?

I don't sell guitar stuff at all. When I sell on eBay, it's generally old vintage stuff. If you have read my other posts, you can see that. If I somehow came to own a truly classic guitar, I doubt that I'd sell it. I got to thinking about this because I bought myself a Fender Stratocaster "back in the day" that I have no intentions of parting with, but that hasn't been played in a while. I had to move it the other day when I was cleaning and realized that it would probably be considered a "vintage guitar" by now. Then, I started thinking that I was probably also holding on to a vintage amp. That was just the eBay seller in me talking though. I don't want to sell them, and seeing them brought back some memories and got me wanting to start playing guitar again.

I don't live near any music stores anymore, so I thought I'd see what kind of guitar stuff was available on eBay. I signed in to eBay using my "buying" ID. (If you ever decide to buy AND sell, I suggest grabbing a second ID. Personally, it's easier for me to keep track of things that way.) Really, all I wanted to do was order some electric guitar strings. They were unbelievably inexpensive so I ordered some...I'm talking less than 3 bucks including shipping! I'm not quite sure how that person made any money on the deal. Anyway, I started browsing and almost bought an acoustic guitar just because it was so cheap! I stopped myself, but I'm keeping my eyes open because I've always wanted to get a 12 string guitar to mess around with and learn.

Like I said, I don't have any guitar stuff for sale myself. But I thought I'd write this post for anyone who does have a need for guitar stuff. I really recommend checking out the guitar stuff for sale on eBay before you buy anywhere else. I can understand that sometimes people are nervous about buying online, but the prices were WAY cheaper than in any store I've ever visited.

There were tons of beginner guitars listed. I'm guessing that these belonged to people who either quit playing guitar or got good enough that they wanted something for a more advanced guitar player. The mix of used stuff for sale and brand new items was pretty good. There was also quite a bit of guitar music, guitar parts and just about every other guitar accessory I had ever heard of. There were even loads of left handed guitars (almost 600 of them). Really, if you are looking for a cheap guitar or top quality, take a minute to check out eBay to see the guitar stuff for sale.

I'm not a professional bottle collector or anything, but this bottle seems to be in pretty nice shape, without any chips or cracks. The front reads "Stetz Delicious Refreshing Beverages" and the printing near the neck advises that you should drink Stetz beverages cold. The back of the bottle reads, "Insist Upon the Best! Ask for Stetz Beverages for All Occasions."

This is a neat little piece of Pittsburgh history. I can remember when we had cases of these little green bottles back in the day!

Welcome to More Stuff For Sale

Welcome to my Stuff for Sale website. First off, I should say that I don't sell stuff full time. I've got a real world job and a family that keep me quite occupied. I've also got a lot of things for sale that I'll be working on getting listed as time allows. A lot of the stuff for sale will be unique or hard to find items. That is why I've decided to set up this website instead of just running week long auctions on eBay. That can get expensive in a hurry when the stuff for sale is not in high demand. I've been selling on eBay for a while trying to make some extra income and I went a bit nuts a while back buying up estate sale stuff. I'll write more about the whole story later, but for now, just trust me when I say that I bought way too much stuff as I was buying large lots. I don't have a warehouse, so that means my family and I have to live with all of this merchandise sharing our space. Suffice to say that my wife isn't thrilled with this arrangement. I'm not either actually. That's why I'm setting up this website to get it moved along.

I've got antique books dating back to the 1800's, old advertising collectible stuff, old toys, a ton of older paper ephemera and boxes upon boxes of other assorted items for sale that I can't even begin to add to this list right now. I haven't bought estate sale merchandise in bulk now for a while now. I actually toyed with the idea of renting store front space but setting up a website was a much less expensive option and it allows me to have my stuff on display 24/7 to a wide range of visitors.

I'll be using this website to showcase items as I list them and maybe show off some other stuff for sale too. I set up an Auctiva/eBay store just to keep the accounting easy. The name of that store is Vintage Stuff for Sale. You find it by clicking here Vintage Stuff.

In the interest of keeping things a little more interesting, I'm also going to add posts about items that catch my eye as I'm looking around eBay and the internet in general. It gets kind of boring waiting for the stat counter to show that one person a month came looking for a Stetz Beverages bottle!
